The English FA confirmed that Raheem Sterling will return to England’s squad World Cup.
Raheem Sterling to return ahead of World Cup quarterfinal in which England will face reigning champions France.
The Chelsea forward missed the last-16 tie against Senegal because of a family matter. His house was broken by armed burglars with his family including wife and children still inside.
Now as thing has been solved, Sterling is coming back to join England’s squad in Qatar.
In a statement on Thursday, the FA said: “Raheem Sterling will return to England’s World Cup base in Qatar. The Three Lions forward temporarily left to attend a family matter but is now expected to rejoin the squad in Al Wakrah tomorrow ahead of the quarter-final with France.”
The former Man City star has had 20 goals from 81 caps for England and scored in the opening World Cup 2022 win against Iran.
As of now, it remains to be confirmed if Sterling can be selected for the squad against France, given that he has missed most of the trainings for the coming clash.
Sterling’s return to the squad does give Southgate another attacking option for Saturday’s crunch match.
However, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden both impressed in the victory over Senegal and could start again on Saturday with Harry Kane in attack.
