The game was almost one-sided since Brazil took the charge and created numerous chances and shots at the opponent’s end.
Unbeaten in their past 15 World Cup group games, Brazil controlled the first half but without creating many goalscoring opportunities as it ended goaless.
The second half came with bunch of actions and a double for Brazil despite Tite’s side registered the total 22 shots. Brazil carried a greater threat after the break.
Tottenham’s ace Richarlison was the main man of the show. Well, who else could be as the Brazilian registered a brace at his first game ever in the World Cup.
He broke the deadlock with a close-range finish just after the hour mark at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.
In the 62nd minute, Vinicius’ attempt blocked by Milinkovic-Savic, but Richarlison was the quickest to hit a the rebound and open the scoresheet.
Richarlison then gave Brazil breathing space in emphatic fashion 11 minutes later; controlling Vinicius’s outside-of-the-foot pass, before sending an acrobatic volley flying into the bottom corner with his right.
His goal for sure, sealed the points as Tite’s side made a winning start in Group G.
The Selecao remain unbeaten in their opening match at the finals since 1934, when they lost 3-1 to Spain in the first round.
Neymar could not pulled the strings as he always did, but the PSG’s forward was the target as he suffered 9 fouls against Serbia — no other player was fouled more than 5 times at the World Cup so far.
There were worries as Neymar could not continue and limped off when subbed.
This was Dragan Stojković’s second defeat with an identical scoreline against Brazil. Four years ago, Serbia lost to Brazil, with goals from Paulinho and Thiago Silva.
