Robert Lewandowski finally scored his first ever goal in the World Cup in Poland’s victory against Saudi Arabia.

After completing one of the greatest shocks ever in the World Cup with the victory over Argentinba, Saudi Arabia was full of confidence as they faced Poland.

However, the European side pulled a great performance, with Lewandowski and Wojciech Szczesny starred.

Saudi Arabia started the game brightly as Szczesny tipped over Mohamed Kanno’s 13th-minute shot inside the box.

But Poland took the lead as Matty Cash’s low cross found Lewandowski who lifted it over the goalkeeper and pulled it back for Zielinski to fire home.

Four minutes later, Saudi Arabia were given a penalty after a VAR review confirmed Krystian Bielik to have fouled Saleh Al-Shehri.

Saudi skipper Al-Dawsari, who scored the winner against Argentina, saw his low penalty saved by Szczesny.

The former Arsenal keeper then made a sensational save out out Al-Burayk’s follow-up.

But Poland took the lead as Matty Cash’s low cross found Lewandowski who lifted it over the goalkeeper and pulled it back for Zielinski to fire home in the 39th minute.

Came the Lewy’s moment

The former Bayern Munich striker finally got his first World Cup goal, with some help from the oppenent.

Lewandowski pounced on Al-Malki’s mistake to coolly slide home past Mohamed Al-Owais, with the striker emotional in his celebrations.

The Barcelona striker netted Poland’s second just four days after he missed a crucial penalty in his team’s opening goalless draw against Mexico.

Current status of the group

Poland’s win moves them top of Group C by a point, with Argentina avoiding an early World Cup exit after their 2-0 win against Mexico later on Saturday, courtesy of Lionel Messi, of course.

They are now second on goal difference, level on three points with Saudi Arabia.

Poland need just a point from their final group game against Argentina to reach the last 16, while Saudi Arabia still have a chance to qualify for the knockout stages, provided that they beat Mexico.
